The nonprofit has responded to a dramatic increase in home fires over the past year, due to households staying home much more in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. While the national number of home fires rose 16 percent over the last year, Northern Kentucky saw a 39 percent increase. Red Cross was able to quickly meet each affected family, disbursing nearly $75,000 in their last fiscal year alone to hundreds of Northern Kentuckians.

Horizon Community Funds of Northern Kentucky has granted $15,000 to Esperanza Latino Center of Northern Kentucky to help fill in financial gaps for local families still feeling the impact of Covid-19.

Family Nurturing Center’s services and programs focus on the education, prevention, and treatment of all forms of child abuse and neglect. The organization offers direct services that support the whole family, including child abuse treatment services, family visitation services, and family-based parenting education programs that help families establish a nurturing way of life.

“Covington Partners touches such critical pieces of students’ lives,” said Horizon Community Funds President Nancy Grayson. “Each additional dollar raised, and each donor connected to their work, is a huge win for Northern Kentucky. We look forward to plugging them into our networks, and we invite the community to join us in supporting Covington Partners’ successful, impactful strategies for students.”

Friends and family members of Sam and Tonya Carlotta, and their son Cameron, raised more than $32,000 in a matter of weeks to launch a new scholarship fund for students attending Cooper High School in Boone County. If enough donations are made, they hope to include scholarships to students at Boone County High School also, their alma mater.

The Friends of Boone County Arboretum now hold a fund in partnership with Horizon Community Funds of Northern Kentucky, with the latter agency serving as an administrative support and donor outreach partner. The Boone County Arboretum, the nation’s very first arboretum, is a 121-acre system of trails, park space, and a 2+ mile multi-use trail just outside Union, Kentucky.

EC LEARN (Early Childhood Learning Education Assessment Resource Network) has announced a new way for donors to support its work as a local child care resource and referral agency in Northern Kentucky. The EC LEARN Fund at Horizon Community Funds provides donors a way to support the nonprofit’s work in the future through an endowed gift, or as needs arise through a non-endowed gift.

Just ahead of the July 1 window for Endow Kentucky Tax Credits, Florence-based Bill and Betsy Scheben Care Center has launched a fund in partnership with Horizon Community Funds of Northern Kentucky.

Horizon Community Funds of Northern Kentucky is now home to the Northern Kentucky Montessori Academy Fund to support the Crescent Springs-based school, which offers half- and full-day Montessori educational programming for children ages two through sixth grade.
