Horizon Community Funds Announces Scholarship Fund in Partnership with Adoption Professionals

Horizon Community Funds of Northern Kentucky and Adoption Professionals have partnered to create a new scholarship fund supporting birth mothers pursuing a nursing education. The Mary Garamy Nursing Education Fund was established at Horizon Community Funds to honor the retiring Board President of Adoption Professionals, Mary Garamy, in recognition of her leadership and commitment to the organization and its mission.

“We are honored to partner with Adoption Professionals through this scholarship fund to help support local women in their journey towards a nursing career,” said Nancy Grayson, President and CEO of Horizon Community Funds. “Mary Garamy is widely known and respected in the Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati community as a compassionate leader and nursing professional; this fund is a fitting tribute to the legacy she has created.”

Adoption Professionals is a private local adoption agency that supports pregnant women and teens with pregnancy counseling, financial assistance, and facilitation of adoption plans. The organization was founded by Sheryl Linne, an attorney and adoptive mother, in 2004. In 2006, the agency won the Angel in Adoption Award in national recognition for its work with birth parents.

“Today we are pleased to honor our retiring Board President, Mary Garamy, with the establishment of the Mary Garamy Nursing Education Scholarship,” shared Sheryl Linne, Founder and Director of Adoption Professionals. “During the past 19 years, Mary has been invaluable in guiding this agency through the ethical issues which surround private adoption. Her insight, compassion and unwavering ethical standards have resulted in the successful adoptive placement of over 350 babies. We are so grateful to her.”

The scholarship fund will aid birth mothers in pursuit of a career in nursing. Applications may be downloaded from the agency website: www.adoptionprofessionals.net/pregnant/birth- mother-scholarship.
